Here are just a few of my favorite books to celebrate Valentine's Day! Love, Splat (Splat the Cat), by Rob Scotton is my new favorite this year, along with Pinkalicious: Pink of Hearts, by Victoria Kann. I just love how Splat gets so nervous around his one and only! Katz's flip book, Where Is Baby's Valentine?: A Lift-the-Flap Book is perfect for the REALLY little one in your life. Diane de Groat's story, Roses Are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink (Gilbert and Friends) teaches a great lesson about ALWAYS being kind in your valentines.
Who are these for? These are all great read a-louds for children ages 3 to 8.
Lesson Plans/Activities:
1. Grab a box of heart candies for each of your children. Sort them, graph them. Have fun!
2. Create a recipe for the best valentine ever! Brainstorm all of the wonderful traits of a Valentine. Encourage the use of phrases like a pinch of love, a serving of kindness, a sprinkle of happiness and a scoop of silly!
Nice Valentine activities!
